The String Loungechair by Clement Meadmore Originals 1953. Clement Meadmore was a mid-century Australian tastemaker who helped shape post-war Melbourne into a thriving and cosmopolitan city through his practise at the intersection of art, design and architecture. Meadmore’s first furniture design, a steel rod and corded chair was created in 1951, it became an instant hit, catching the attention of the highly influential modernist architect Robin Boyd and receiving the Good Design Award from the Society of Interior Designers of Australia.
This lounge iteration is by Meadmore Originals, it is crafted from enameled steel and laminated rush cording. Designed and made in Melbourne this chair would later form part of the iconic 13-piece series known as the Meadmore Originals.
